Synopsis:

Derek Souers - Senior .Net Software Engineer
ASP.NET, web application development, enterprise development, internal line of business development, e-commerce, online shopping, C#, SEO, VB.Net, Content Management Systems, Windows Server administration, IIS administration, SQL administration, virus/malware removal, and technical support.

Currently:

I'm a Microsoft .Net developer focusing on Windows Client App Development and reusable libraries.

My most recent assignment was at a large manufacturing plant in the North East Ohio area where I worked on providing real-time data from the ERP system to provide critical data for small teams in a dashboard system and multiple reports. I was previously a Software Engineer at a consulting firm, where I developed numerous web applications and utilities from the ground up, utilizing Microsoft .NET development tools for a diverse clientele. I also learned a great deal on how to develop software in the quickest, most efficient ways that significantly lowered the total cost of ownership for very competitive and lean environments.

Beginnings:

I have been using computers since I was six years old. It all began when my father bought a Commodore 64. Over the next few years, I became bored playing arcade games and started to develop my own games and programs in BASIC. I was even able to mimic a classic platform game that was only available on the consoles at the time. Due to the slow speed of BASIC, I started learning MOS 65XX Assembly.

When I was 16, a 286 computer was given to me from church. I was quick to adapt to the new machine in a few months knowing the basic in's and out's of DOS, Windows 3.1x and x86 system architecture.

About a half a year later, I built my own computer from parts. Since then I have built, repaired, and upgraded many computers.

I continued in the area of computers at The University of Akron and received my Bachelors of Science in Computer Science. I now reside in North East Ohio area.

Outside of work:

On the techie side, when I'm not at work, I like to tinker with home automation, gadgets, productivity tools and develop utilities for power users. On the non-techie side, I like to listen to music and exercise: walk, bike, swim, and canoe.
